You Were Made for This: Building God’s House with Your Gifts

When Solomon set out to build the temple, he didn’t just grab a hammer and do it himself. He could have tried—but he didn’t. Instead, he looked for people with specific, unique, and God-given skills.

In 2 Chronicles 2:7, Solomon writes:

“Send me therefore a man skilled to work in gold, silver, bronze and iron, and in purple, crimson and blue yarn, and experienced in the art of engraving…”

He wasn’t just asking for anyone. He wanted someone skilled—someone gifted—for the exact work of building God’s house.

Here’s the point: God still builds the church this way. And He still uses people like you.

That might not mean you’re sculpting pillars or weaving fine linen, but maybe you’re running the soundboard. Maybe you’re the one cleaning and maintaining the building each week so others can walk in and feel peace. Maybe you’ve got the gift of hospitality—welcoming people in, remembering their name, offering a seat, and opening your home to build lasting community.

In other words, your gift isn’t just useful—it’s essential.

There’s a reason God made you the way He did. Your creativity, your eye for detail, your servant’s heart, your warm smile—none of it is random. All of it fits into God’s plan to build His Church. His kingdom.

So don’t wait for someone else to step up. You were made for this.
